Common name:

Blue ram

Sexing:

The female is smaller, has shorter 2nd ray on the dorsal and a reddish stomach, just prior to spawning a fatter ovipositor can be seen. The male has a longer dorsal fin.

Habitat:

Western Venezuela, Columbia.

Food:

All types of live, frozen and freeze dried foods, will also accept flakes and small pellet foods.

Care and maintenance:

Likes a tank with several heavily planted areas, places to hide such as caves and driftwood and an open swimming area. Very sensitive to chemicals and sudden changes to their environment. This peaceful dwarf cichlid is a good addition to community aquariums they will not damage or uproot plants and not bother other tank mates.

Soft water <10°dGH, pH around 7.0

23°-26°c, 74°-82°F

Males to 3”, females smaller
